“We may not always understand everything about our lives, our looks, or our purpose but everything works together for good regardless of what we believe, think, or feel. In The Three Magic Keys by Rita Mendoza, with illustrations by Emely Fernandez, a wonderful story unfolds about love, hope, wisdom, and sacrifice. A young girl called Laura lived in the kingdom of Arabella, in a small village called Calabasas. Despite her unique looks, she had a beautiful spirit and the town adored her. It was her beautiful spirit that the townspeople loved and enjoyed the most. Children will learn that, as with Laura, they are faced with several challenges in their lives. And as they grow up some of them can be scarred well into adulthood. This book gives a face to those challenges and the ways in which to overcome them.

I loved this story due to its lessons, passion, and personality. I’m sure it will be more beautifully told in other languages. This story needs to be shared with the world. Walking in Laura’s shoes creates a similar story that children reading this book may encounter from being made fun of and lonely to uncertainty but with the three keys of love, trust, and gratitude, you can do and overcome anything. As the wise Arkazú says: “No matter what others think about you, inside you have everything you need, you just have to believe.” Highly recommended.
