Q & A with the author, Emily Benet
-Why did you decide to write a book about a Hen Party?
I love novels which follow multiple characters; novels by Liane Moriarty and Deborah Moggach. Big, Little Lies by Liane Moriarty is one of my favourite books and really inspired me. Having written three books, Shop Girl Diaries, The Temp and #PleaseRetweet in the first person, I was determined to write a novel with more than one main protagonist. I wanted to start with a mystery and for the reader to see each character’s version of events. I thought a hen party offere the possibility of a fun cast of characters and group dynamic.
-Why did you set it in Mallorca?
I love Mallorca. It’s a place I know well and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to write about it. It’s perfect for the plot. It’s got beautiful beaches and countryside, plus not far from the hens’ villa is the notorious party town, Magaluf. I think The Hen Party would make a good beach read so hopefully I’ll see people reading The Hen Party on a Mallorcan beach this summer!
-What can readers expect?
To be entertained! It’s a fun, fast-paced summery read set in a beautiful place. It’s got twists and turns and everyone has a secret. It’s not a traditional romance or a comedy, but it’s got both in there!
