Official synopsis Publisher

The Lenni Lenape, Keeper of the Red Score, once lived on the Rise Near the Creek. While working the summer on a farm, a ten-year-old boy finds a stone arrowhead, a magical black celt, and a few crumbling bones “from someone’s ancient meal.”

The boy takes those bones with him when he goes to the family doctor for an annual examination. He shows them to the doctor, and the boy is greatly concerned when told that they are from someone like himself — a human being.

With concern and compassion, the boy returns the human remains to the Rise Near the Creek, where the Great Recorder and Keeper of the Red Score, Clay Face, appears to him. In gratitude for the deed and the caring and respectful nature of the boy, Clay Face engages him in conversation and tells the story of his own life and that of his People.
