Synopsis: After betraying his father and attending college for art, William Thatcher is set to marry the Duchess of Dartford to fund his frivolous lifestyle. But upon their engagement party, William abandons Daphne, calling off their engagement. Furious, his father enrolls him in a 3-year commission in the colonial Army. His childhood friend, Bash dutifully enlists alongside him.

Phillipa Thornbottom, Pippa, is the only daughter of Elsie and Archibald Thornbottom, Reverend of a small church in Yarmouth Port. Being an activist, trouble often finds Pippa. After a rally against fur fashion goes too far and causes too much damage for her father to fix, Pippa and her family are ruined.
