Su De rege et regis institutione, fue quemado en 1610 como subversivo por el parlamento de Par�s tras el asesinato de Enrique IV de Francia; seg�n sus acusadores, esta obra hab�a dado legitimidad al tiranicidio, ya que su doctrina fue relacionada con el anterior asesinato de Enrique III de Francia. Asimismo, “marianos” eran llamados los revolucionarios franceses de 1789, que derrocaron la monarqu�a, en cuanto que seguidores del pensamiento de Juan de Mariana acerca de la legitimidad del tiranicidio. En base a ello muchos aducen que la “Mariana”, s�mbolo de aquella revoluci�n, deriva de esa circunstancia.
