I’m Tana Ray, By the Way

The fashionable and well liked Tanalisa Ray is an inquisitive child ahead of her time who at a young age moves off the military base to a new neighborhood after the death of her father, a Colonel in the Air Force. There she meets her new best friend Darla, a child with Down syndrome. Known for her trademark catchphrase ‘By the Way’, Tana seeks to help others learn about children whose differences range from their backgrounds to their disabilities. A website will supplement the series with activities related to the books in addition to bringing the content to an audience that can at times be hard for authors to reach. The site will enable kids of all kinds to enjoy and learn from the Tana Ray experience. Much of childhood revolves around being dependant on someone else, particularly for children with disabilities. The Tana Ray website’s interactive nature shows kids that learning and reading is something they can approach on their own, even if they are normally dependant on someone else signing or reading to them.
