Part of a series of exciting and luxurious Flame Tree Notebooks. Combining high-quality production with magnificent fine art, the covers are printed on foil in five colours, embossed, then foil stamped. And they’re powerfully practical: a pocket at the back for receipts and scraps, two bookmarks and a solid magnetic side flap. These are perfect for personal use and make a dazzling gift. This example features Horishige’s Mount Fuji.
In 1830 Hiroshige was selected to make a special ceremonial expedition along the Tokaido ̄ Road to Kyoto. The purpose of the journey was to take a purebred white horse from the Shogun to the Emperor, by tradition an annual gift. The story goes that, stirred by what he saw along the road during this journey, Hiroshige made rough sketches, which he subsequently made into prints.
