Varga’s father, Ferenc Schwimmer, was inducted for forced labor just before the German invasion in March 1944, and her older sister was hidden with non-Jews soon after. Relates the hardships inflicted on them by the anti-Jewish laws. They fled from a Jewish House in Budapest and went into hiding, with “Aryan” papers, in a nearby village until the liberation. Varga’s father did not survive. In 1946 Heddy married Gyula Weiss (later Varga) and the family emigrated to Australia in 1948.
