U to je vrijeme grad Senj pod austrijskom vlasti, a Uskoci su zaduzeni braniti grad i njegovu okolicu od napada Turaka i Mletaka. I jedni I drugi pokusavaju dovesti grad i njegovu okolicu pod svoju vlast. August Ivan Nepomuk Eduard Senoa (Zagreb, 14. studenoga 1838. – Zagreb, 13. prosinca 1881.), bio je hrvatski romanopisac, pripovjedac, pjesnik, kriticar i pisac podlistaka. Najutjecajniji je i najplodniji hrvatski pisac 19. stoljeca, i istinski tvorac moderne hrvatske knjizevnosti, autor opseznoga korpusa romana, inovator proze i tvorac razvijenoga urbanoga jezicnoga standarda. Zbog njegove velicine i udjela kojeg je imao u hrvatskoj knjizevnosti, razdoblje oko njegove smrti naziva se Senoino doba. August Senoa umro je od posljedica upale pluca koju je zaradio dok je kao gradski senator skrbio za unesrecene u Velikom potresu 1880. godine.
