William Stout is a bookstore with real character — and it focuses exclusively on architecture. The owner was originally an engineer and is genuinely passionate about architecture, which really shows. Most of the staff here are incredibly friendly as well.nnYou can find almost any architecture-related book you’re looking for. I came this time specifically for a book by Frank Wyatt, and it was sitting perfectly in the right section — very satisfying. The whole place has a wonderful vibe: quiet, calm, and thoughtful.nnThe block it’s on also feels quieter and nicer than many other parts of San Francisco. Overall, if you’re in the area, it’s absolutely worth stopping by, whether or not you end up buying a book.

William Stout bookstore is an institution for anyone in the architectural and urban design field. Great diverse selection of new and out of print books on all manner of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design. The expert staff are very passionate about their stock and very helpful.

The best specialized architecture bookstore i have ever visited, and i ve been to so many in Europe and Asia. There is literally thousands of books by most popular architects. The atmosphere is just right for reading and choosing the books of your choice. Staff are so amazingly helpful and friendly. I highly recommend it.
