The Bookmark Bookstore

Cute place to browse and find both popular books and hidden gems. It's a perfect weekend stop in browsing downtown/old town Oakland. On top of that, I'm really glad to support the Oakland Public Library. They also welcome volunteers.

I have shopped here and always found amazing finds and prices. The regular staff is great, and the manager is a librarian!!! Love the story, love how they fully support the Oakland Libraries. This is now my go to book, music, video, comics store

This is a fantastic little bookstore, there is no telling what you can find there. And the prices are such a great deal. And a very good reason to come here to purchase books, is because all proceeds go to the Oakland Library. And they don't just have books. There's games, puzzles, CDs and many other assorted items. I've even seen collectables of all sorts. So do yourself right and the Oakland Library come on down.

This place is dangerous. I bought 10 high-quality books here for $26, which explains the photo. Thankfully I only had one drink at the (very cozy) bar across the street from this place before swinging by, otherwise I would have bought 80 books rather than 10. Very, wonderfully dangerous place. Also:nn1. It helps the Oakland Public Library.n2. The location and interior are so cozy that I'm genuinely surprised it hasn't been used for filming a Hallmark movie yet.n3. The volunteers there are helpful and relaxing and know what they're doing.

What's not to love? Proceeds benefit the Oakland Public Library. This shop is a smorgasbord of used books. You'll find plenty of classics and modern bestsellers but they also have sections for other languages, music books, comic books, just about everything! Amazing staff of volunteers who care deeply about reading and are always happy to help. Cozy and well-organized. I always find something special when I visit.
