I love pickles and I love used bookstores so five star rating is for the combination of both in one concept!nnWe visited on a rainy day and felt bad for tracking in wet shoes and soggy jackets because the store itself (while surprisingly bigger than it looks) is very narrow. Just keep that in mind if you plan to visit and be mindful that the narrow layout means you might have to be more conscious of your bags or blocking the flow of traffic. Lots of treasures to be found!nnThis review is mostly for the pickles as a self proclaimed pickle lover. I am more of a very sour, crunch necessary type of pickle lover and picked up a jar of the whole dilled pickles. They also have double dill spears and sweet pickles if I remember correctly!nnPros: *very* crunchy, they crammed as many pickles as they could in there, and there is a lot of dill+garlic+mustard seed+ chili pepper (but not enough to make it super spicy).nnCons: More salty than sour, not super dilly I want to say it’s a heavy on the mustard seed?nnIt reminded me of a claussen pickle rather than a grillo’s pickle and the flavor profile is more like an European brine vs your neon green American brine (like vlasic pickles).nnI didn’t enjoy eating it on its own as I do with other pickles but I did snack on it along side some crackers and salami and enjoyed it better as an accompaniment! I think it would be tasty along side a hearty sandwich as well.nnWorth the try and you can trade in books for it if the price is holding you back!
It's a small and cozy used book store with a quirky gimmick. You can donate books in return for pickles. In addition to books, they also have pickles and other souvenir-type items. If there is a specific book you are looking for, you can also make a request via their website.nnThere are a couple of downsides. The store itself doesn't make the greatest use of it's small space. Some areas are more cramped than others and you have to squeeze past. The organization leaves a lot to be desired as well. But I'm not going to dock them for those. Poorly optimized space is common in NY and some famous book stores in Paris could also be organized better, so those are nothing out of the ordinary.
Super cute and quirky used book store/pickle emporium buried in the LES, decent selection of used art books, which was the section I focused on, also hats/shirts/keychains etc all done up in fine style—definitely worth a browse if you’re in the area—friendly staff an added bonus even if you don’t buy anything you will leave feeling fulfilled. Happy 5th anniversary Sweet Pickle Books!
Super cool bookstore. Yes, they have pickles and a great selection of well priced books.
For used books, the prices are a bit high. Though I loved the wide selection and pickle themed items, I couldn't stay in the building for too long because of the aroma? It smelled a bit musty, unless that is the smell of books, it was more prominent in the back of the store. The walls are FILLED with books, so be prepared to feel a bit small. The CD selection is very retro and there were some VHS. There is limited seating available and pickle themed items included hats, keychains, and 4 types of pickles by the register.
