Not worth coming here with your kids. Owner clearly doesn’t like kids browsing the selection to decide on which books to buy. My child accidentally dropped a book that she wanted to buy when putting on her jacket and she was yelled at by owner for “throwing books” which was clearly not the case. We quickly proceeded to buy the books and leave immediately. Not sure why she has a kids section with a sitting area if she doesn’t want kids in the store. Never felt so unwelcome in a bookstore, particularly one that purports to be a neighborhood small business bookstore. I do not advise coming here as there seems to be other reviews where the owner does not like kids in her bookstore.
Lilliput Books is an absolute delight! This charming shop is beautifully organized, thoughtfully curated, and filled with so many unique titles for both kids and adults. I love that the staff truly knows their books — they offer wonderful recommendations and are always happy to help you find the perfect read or gift. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and perfect for browsing at a relaxed pace.nnYou can tell the owners genuinely care about community and the love of reading. There are always fun finds, creative displays, and a welcoming vibe that makes visiting feel special. Whether you’re searching for a favorite classic, a new release, or something unexpected, Lilliput Books never disappoints. A must-visit for book lovers of any age.
I was told to check out Lilliput Books by some friends and was not disappointed. I’ve never been a reader (getting me to pick up a book is next to impossible) but the owner Yasmeen really took her time to listen to what I was and wasn’t looking for and offered this goofy sci-fi book. Honestly I couldn’t put the thing down and now I’ve ordered another book by the same author from her. The store is always so bright and cheery, and of course sometimes the dog Lily is there which is fun. If anything I recommend stopping by in the now freezing cold to just browse and chill!
I've joined the modern fiction bookclub for the past 3 months and will definitely continue! The books that have been selected have exposed me to new things that I wouldn't have chosen otherwise and I've really enjoyed them all! The conversations are always kind and positive. Yasmin is wonderful, and her store is so cute, with a great selection. I'm proud to support a woman-owned bookstore in Chicago!
This gem of a bookstore is everything I loved when I lived in Chicago and everything I wish were closer. The kindness, attention to local authors, ways in which they build community, and creating a warm atmosphere that welcomes all readers. They are consummate curators and engaged hosts- a beautiful example of what small business stands for and aspires to be.
