Hummingbird Books is a small, welcoming independent bookstore tucked into the Chestnut Hill village area on the Boston–Brookline line.nnThe shop focuses on carefully curated new titles, with strong sections in fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, and gifts, emphasizing thoughtful selection over volume. Its Chestnut Hill location serves a neighborhood that has long supported local retail, and the store regularly functions as a quiet community anchor rather than a high-traffic commercial space.

Went in today and despite the whole shopping center being incredibly busy, the cashiers Zoe and Maria were so cheerful, helpful, and provided amazing recommendations to my daughter in middle school.nThe store itself is lovely too! Great ambiance and energy. Definitely recommend!

We visited 'Hummingbird Bookstore' in Chestnut Hill, just outside Boston. My 8 year old son loved the cozy kids' corner, especially the tree-shaped nook. He picked out a popular Thinking Putty, a joke book, and some candy. We spent a lovely day reading and playing together. I love these unique local bookstores and hope they continue to thrive.

Yesterday my husband and I took our grandsons to your store. They are both voracious readers and we make it a point to visit bookstores when they are with us. The store itself was lovely. They would have stayed in the treehouse all day if we let them. As we were cashing out our 7 year old picked up something at the register that was clearly meant to be touched (I believe your son had made them). As he was holding it the manager told him that if he broke it, he would own it. Really? Shame on me for not saying something at the time, but I cannot stop thinking about this aggressive behavior to a child. Our 4 year old was touching some stickers at the cash wrap and was told to look with his eyes and not his hands. This employee is doing a great disservice to your admirable efforts to promote reading and community.

Giving this bookstore a 2 star rating…so sad the looks and the decor is very welcoming however, not the lady owner inside. The book store itself was really nice and had a cool, cozy vibe with a great selection of books. However, the lady at the register wasn’t very friendly and seemed to rush us through checkout, which made the experience a bit less pleasant. She asked every customer before questions she didn’t care to ask me. It was rude and unwelcoming. Will not spend my money back here.
