Hymns and Their Singers

Originally published in 1898, this book provides a history of Christian hymns and the people who sang them. The author, M. H. James, was a British historian and theologian who wrote extensively on religious topics. In this book, he discusses the origins of hymnody, as well as the cultural and social contexts in which hymns were written and performed. He also profiles several important hymn writers and performers, including Isaac Watts, Charles Wesley, and Fanny Crosby.
