Homer was born and bred to be a guide dog . With his outgoing personality, he easily wins the hearts of his “Puppy Family” the Capucci’s. However, he must leave to begin his guide dog training. Throughout his training it becomes evident that he has eating challenges which prevent him from continuing his program. Regardless, Homer discovers that he has other strengths which make him just as precious as the other dogs, and he lives a very fulfilling life!

The author is a Special Education Teacher and is accustomed to helping children identify their strengths and use them to assist in areas of need. Homer’s story teaches children that we are not all good at everything, but we are very good at some things. It encourages children not to be discouraged when they fail, but to look for what they do well and develop those skills.
