Despite stopping the onslaught of the British and Hessians at Harlem, General George Washington faces a deluge of crises. The City of New York is firmly in enemy hands. His army holds the upper island of Manhattan by only a hair. The Royal Navy controls the waters around New York. And now the American spy Nathan Hale is trapped behind enemy lines. He turns to his young cavalier, Lieutenant Jeremiah Creed. Recruit a band of Jersey outlaws of doubtful loyalty to counter the Hessians and Loyalists terrorizing Jersey’s Hackensack Valley. But a mysterious young widow complicates the mission. The clandestine war grows more savage and the stakes get higher when Creed and his men stumble on a crafty British spymaster’s plot to win the war in a bold stroke.
With winter fast approaching, the glorious cause faces destruction. Needing a desperate gambit to stave off defeat, Washington plans a surprise counterstroke.
