Logics for New-Generation AI

Logics for New-Generation AI by Beishui Liao, published by College Publications on June 6, 2022, is a focused exploration of the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. This edition, comprising 120 pages, delves into the intersection of logical research and advancements in AI, particularly in areas such as explainable AI, ethical AI, and knowledge-based AI. The book addresses the complexities of reasoning in dynamic environments where information may be incomplete, uncertain, or conflicting.
Readers will find discussions on causal reasoning, reasoning with norms and values, and knowledge graph reasoning, highlighting the challenges of effectively communicating reasoning processes to a general audience. The volume also emphasizes the role of nonmonotonic logics and formal argumentation as foundational theories to tackle these issues. This work presents recent advancements in the field, making it a relevant resource for those interested in the logical underpinnings of contemporary AI developments.
Official synopsis Publisher
With the development of several new directions of AI, including explainable AI, ethical AI and knowledge-based AI, the corresponding directions of logical research are gaining momentum: causal reasoning, reasoning with norms and values, and knowledge graph reasoning. In an open and dynamic environment, the main challenges for modeling such kinds of reasoning are to deal with information that is typically incomplete, uncertain, dynamic and conflicting, and to effectively explain the results and procedures of reasoning to ordinary human beings.
Nonmonotonic logics and formal argumentation can be used as fundamental theories to cope with these challenges. The papers in this volume report some recent advantages of the research on related topics.
