The Man Who Built the Cross

Josiah was sleeping soundly. Suddenly the pounding on his door would start. The Roman soldiers stormed into his house shouting for him to get up. The officer screamed, “Do you have a cross ready? We have orders to prepare an extra crucifixion for the morning.”Josiah, still in a fog from being in a deep sleep, stumbled through the house to deal with the unruly solider. “Who is the criminal tonight?” he asked.The centurion looked at him and simply said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”Josiah’s head snapped around involuntarily. “Who?””Jesus of Nazareth,” the officer answered in an offhanded manner. Then another gruff command came his way. “Are you going to get us that cross, or are we going to mail you to one?”Josiah’s mind was racing. He had been on of the people who had listened to some of his teachings and just thought, This teaching is so new. Love your neighbor as yourself? Give and it shall be given to me? The only thing I have ever done is keep on taking. I have made a lot of money building those death trees, I haven’t wanted to see someone die on one of these, but for whatever reason, I have to see this.In today’s world, we see people who won’t forgive each other or, for that matter, won’t forgive themselves.
