John K. King Books North

John K King Books is a staple in Detroit. Any time I have friends or family visiting, I make sure to bring them to one of their locations. The books are affordable and I always find something interesting there. An added bonus is that the dog, Casper is very sweet and does a good job.

Great collection of books. And I don't know her name, but she's your employee who writes horror. Cute girl with the Goth vibes, pretty eyes, and shy smile. I'm a writer, myself, and I enjoyed spending my time talking to her.

I went into John King in search of some older texts and was immediately disgusted by the service I received. The gentleman who seems to be some kind of manager treats people in a disgusting manner. He hassled the woman checking out before me, asking whether she had returned a book to the shelf. She had and was perfectly pleasant. While it would be irritating if she hadn’t, the way he hassled her was disgusting.nnHe then helped me. He warned me that the side of a book was fragile. The minute he handed it to me, the side fell off (it had been broken before). “See? I told you to be careful with it.” I told him it was already broken, to which he sighed and raised his voice: “No it wasn’t!”nnJohn K. King is a Detroit treasure, and the Ferndale location is a convenient gem. I would not go in if this guy is still there. Rather than respect the dedicated customers who, instead of buying off Amazon, choose to support what is otherwise a really cool business, this gentleman was rude to the customer before me, rude to me, rude to an elderly customer, and rude to the other female employee. Beyond disgusting.
