Wow!! This bookstore has a great selection, incredibly broad, everything you can think of. The owners are also very supportive of the community. I can’t recommend them enough.

I had been searching everywhere for a first edition and wasn’t having any luck. Then, completely by chance, it popped up in a random Google search on a third-party site that listed The Book Beat as the seller. I was skeptical at first — it was a third-party listing, and the shop was all the way in Michigan while I’m in Hawaiʻi — but it was the only lead I had, so I decided to call.nnI ended up speaking with Nick, who was incredibly patient and helpful. Even though he wasn’t sure the book was actually in stock, he took the time to search for it, found it, and walked me through the purchase over the phone. He immediately texted me a copy of the receipt and tracking information, which gave me so much peace of mind.nnThe book arrived within two weeks, packaged well and in perfect condition. The whole experience was such a random and genuinely pleasant surprise.nnIf you’re looking for a book — whether a first edition or something harder to find — I highly recommend contacting The Book Beat and asking for Nick. Even if you live across the country or across the ocean, this shop truly comes through.

The service here is very poor. I found a book I wanted to purchase for my husband and took it to the counter. Both myself and the clerk assumed the book was the price on the back of the book. The owner swooped in and said that can't be the price, it should be much more. He angrily made me show him where on the shelf it was located and said it wasn't supposed to be there. He said it was out of print and between 150-300 dollars. All this I understand but he was very mean about it, wasn't apologetic, and didn't offer to help me some thing else. I won't be shopping there again. I'll go to Flyleaf in Grosse Pointe that doesn't even need my money.

I absolutely LOVE this place! Very eclectic, and Colleen Kammer, the owner, is an expert on children's books. Buy from independent bookstores instead of Amazon.

The Book Beat was a super happy find! This bookstore is amazing. The selection of books is incredible, and you're sure to find something you'll love. From new releases, to local reads, an engaging children's section, and everything in between, there is a wide representation of books, characters, and topics. There are also greeting cards, some puppets, and an assortment of gift items. If you aren't sure what you're looking for, or if you need some gift suggestions, there are helpful people with awesome suggestions. We can't wait to get back into the area to visit again.
