If I could give exactly 2.5 stars I would and split it straight down the middle. Not because it was a horrible store. It’s actually got a relatively good, professional, even fun, bookstore vibe. But the reason I give it this rating is because there are a few glaring contradictions in this store to anyone who really takes a good look through it. In one of my pictures below you’ll see a book that falsely calls some Christian sects “cults” even though they have legitimate core Christian beliefs. While they have an entire section that celebrates what is ACTUALLY occult and even have Ouija merch. *awkward* A huge double standard there if you ask me. What’s even more ironic is that they openly support Latter-day Saint authors like Stephanie Meyer and Brandon Sanderson while selling that book that falsely criticizes their religion (and Jehovah’s Witness and several others [unfairly] as well). The other pleasantly odd thing is that they also happen to sell several C.S. Lewis classics, and Lewis openly taught several ideas that the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints uniquely believes. I recognize that this isn’t necessarily a “religious” book store per se, and I was thankful to find at least two books (pictured) that I look forward to reading based on what I’ve heard about them.nnAt least the guy at the register was totally (even if embarrassingly) honest when I told him about it and he said “what ever makes the dollars.”
Been coming here since I was a teen, theyre about the same. Very quiet, nice selection of books and novelty items. Bare shelves here and there, but thats uncommon for them. They could clean or maybe deep clean a bit more, but they can only do so much while being located in Rivergate..
Books-A-Million is a medium-sized bookstore that’s very well curated. They have a strong selection across a variety of genres, including many titles trending on BookTok. I really enjoy their offers and sales on selected books. I visited on a weekend and, to my surprise, it wasn’t too busy. There’s plenty of free, open parking available. Definitely worth stopping by for a browse.
Store is good, good selection etc. The reason for the 3 star is that the gentleman at the counter basically wouldn't let me leave until I signed up for their $25 membership. No mention of the automatic renewal slip you had to sign, though. Just handed it to me and said sign this.nnExperience did not feel great; borderline on getting taken advantage of. I understand they prob have a quota, but the hard sell gets a no from me, dawg.nnWill def be canceling that auto-renewal.
How can a book store the size if the Madison location only have ONE shopping cart? The availability of ONE bench (all the way in the very BACK of the store) is also unacceptable. I am a 75 year old woman who was looking to purchase a nice cookbook for my grandson. The nicer ones were quite heavy. When I carried two of them to the front of store in search of a cart. I was informed there was only one cart in entire store. I was offered a basket, but this still left me carrying a heavy load. I was going to carry them to bench so I could look thru them and choose the one I thought was the perfect gift…but too heavy and too far. Your employees were very polite, but unable to offer me any help. Please consider making shopping a pleasant experience by providing your customers with the assistance of shopping carts. Thank-you.
