Official synopsis Publisher

Very Good. See scans and description. New York: Frederick Warne, 1906. First U.S. Edition, later state, with “12 E. 33rd Street” as publisher’s address on title page. [CF1, illustrations]. 24mo, 81 pp. Gray/brown cloth, silver imprint, cover illustration, illustrated endpapers. Very Good. Front hinge just starting to get tender, but still sturdy. Corners and spine ends bumped, causing roughening at spine ends (see scans). Small amount of a child’s light pencil scribble on ffep and two internal pages. Scarce printing of the first American edition – which is itself apparently rarer than the UK first – of Beatrix Potter’s memorable The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher, in which Mr. Jeremy, a bullfrog, narrowly escapes becoming dinner for a fish – while fishing himself. No more deeply meaningful than that, but do we want it to be ? Full of some of Potter’s most beautiful full-color illustrations, magical and nostalgic; perhaps exceeding those in her other works, even, yes, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. See scans. L48
