Don’t come to this location and expect decent service. As a used book store my expectations to be served in quick fashion were already very low, but they managed to service us below my expectations. We had about twenty books to sell them and we were told that it would take about 30 minutes. We shopped around for an hour. An hour an half later, we are still waiting to be issued our estimate as the staff has decided to all go out to lunch at the same time. Unbelievably bad service.nnUpdatenAfter two hours of waiting we were told that we can leave and they’ll give us a credit for the books we brought in.nnSuggestion- set your customers expectations properly at the start of the sales transaction and management shouldn’t allow everyone but two team members to leave for lunch at the same time.
Second & Charles in Jacksonville is a convenient one-stop shop for everything from books to music and more. They have a wide variety of used books, and it’s great if you’re looking for a bit of everything in one place so you don't have to go to multiple stores. The store is pet-friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming.nnHowever, the pricing can be quite high for pre-owned items. For example, a used book might cost more than a brand new copy online, which can be a bit disappointing. One book they had priced at $12.95 and it was brand new on Amazon for $9.99. Additionally, the store’s organization could use improvement, as the books aren’t arranged in a consistent alphabetical order, making it a bit challenging to find specific titles.nOverall, it’s a nice spot if you’re looking to explore, but it may not always offer the best value.
If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I was at the Jacksonville St. Johns’ Town Center location where I found a Rainbow Brite mini backpack and when I brought it to the register, I was quoted $30 for the bag since they couldn’t find the item in their system. I verbally accepted the price offered and asked them to hold it while I finished the rest of my shopping. While I was still walking the store, a different associate approached me and told me that the bag is $80 and I can’t have it for the agreed price. They didn’t find the item in their system and so they had to put it in as a generic price approved by the store manager. The store manager was completely dismissive and even a bit hostile. She only offered me 10% off of the price she quoted. I’ve attached both the bag and the receipt where you can clearly see the manager inputted the price, it wasn’t scanned from a barcode showing it’s the official price of the bag. I provided another image of the receipt to show the other items I purchased with the official barcode being rung up with the item listed. I have emailed customer service regarding this matter where I was told the GM would be in touch. It has been THREE WEEKS with no contact. I understand that they can’t provide me the cash difference for the purchase which is $38 but I asked that they provide me with store credit as I’ve been a happy customer of theirs for some years now. I contacted them once again and was met with hostility as if I’m the problem for expecting their management to honor a price that was given to me. Had I purchased the bag right when they gave me the $30 price, there would have been zero discourse for them to get another $50. Instead, I asked them to hold the bag in good faith (I’ve never had an issue with them prior to this and didn’t think they would change the price while I continued shopping) and then was asked to pay a higher price than the original agreed upon price. The manager was dismissive and even a bit hostile like I was the problem because I expected them to honor our agreement. I have always loved 2nd & Charles and have told so many people to check them out because I’ve always had great experiences there up until this point. If they can’t provide me the cash difference, they should at the very least offer store credit of the difference. I have all my email correspondences between me and their corporate customer service showing how dismissive and somewhat rude they have been. I want to state that if I was given the $80 price from the beginning, I would’ve put the bag back. My birthday is in a few days from now so my husband told me to get it as an early bday gift. The manager was cold, dismissive, and even somewhat hostile towards me for expecting the original quote to be honored. This is not how you do business and if the manager would’ve offered me a 20-25% discount, I would’ve felt like she cared and was making an effort to meet me halfway as a loyal customer. She basically told me she’ll give me 10% take it or leave it. I took the bag and figured I would contact the corporate office to see if they were willing to give me store credit of the difference or even something close to the difference $20-30 store credit would’ve solved this entire issue because I would’ve felt like they cared about my negative experience but instead, I have been dismissed over and over again. The DM never contacted me after 3 weeks and I had to be the one to reach out yet again. I’ll also be filing this complaint with the BBB because this isn’t how you treat paying customers. Disappointed is an understatement for what I’m feeling about my experience with one of my favorite stores. They obviously don’t care to lose one customer so my hope is to let other customers know to be careful and if you’re quoted a good price, purchase it on the spot or they can change it while you finish your shopping. I’m so disappointed with how they took advantage of my trust and I learned a valuable lesson from this situation which is to purchase items quoted on the spot to avoid a situation like this.
What a great treat this place is! So many great reading choices to choose from at unbelievable prices. We picked up several books for less then $20 and our nieces who were with us found a few really cool things they really liked. So many great little toys and trinkets. You can even get music equipment here. Staff was very helpful and the place was very clean as well. Check this place out!
Amazing store! It's got something for everyone. Whether you're looking for books, music or just about anything else, they'll have it and the staff is super friendly and helpful
