SMU Barnes & Noble is a solid stop if you’re near campus and know what you’re looking for, but it’s not a destination bookstore by any stretch. I visited primarily to browse and purchase books, and the experience was fine overall. The staff was helpful and friendly, though they weren’t fully aware of current promotional sale items, which led to a bit of unnecessary back-and-forth at checkout. Not a major issue, but worth noting.nnThe atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect from a university bookstore. It’s student-focused, functional, and clearly designed with SMU needs in mind rather than casual browsing. There’s no café or coffee option, which limits its appeal if you’re hoping to linger. Layout-wise, SMU merchandise and textbooks dominate the space, and non-university books are tucked away on the far right in a relatively small section. The selection there is limited, so if you’re a general book lover, you may find it underwhelming. That said, some books were marked 50% off, which was a pleasant surprise, and pricing otherwise is standard for Barnes & Noble.nnParking was easy, which is a definite plus near a college campus. Overall, this store makes sense for SMU students, parents, alumni, or someone like me who needed a last-minute gift while already nearby. It serves its purpose well within that context, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to shop here unless campus access made it convenient.

Great campus bookstore with a solid selection of SMU gear, textbooks, and gifts. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the store was clean and well-organized. Prices on some items felt a bit steep, which is the only reason for not giving five stars. Overall, a convenient and reliable spot for students and visitors alike.

I generally love the Barnes and Noble experience, but this is not a typical B&N. As official school bookstore for SMU it does a just good enough job. The store hours are very inconvenient for me as a graduate student with a job and a family – I would really appreciate some evening hours on some weekdays.nnThe SMU paraphernalia is way overpriced. I literally laugh about it with my wife.nnThat said, they have some convenient online services for ensuring you get the right text books. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. And they always have cool Lego sets for sale, along with a good selection of board games.
