Pennywise Books

I am so glad I found this place—it makes supporting my book habit more sustainable. In the past two weeks I’ve bought 12 books, four of which are hardcover, for $106. And these aren’t old or worn books—some titles are still on display at the front of major bookstores. All the books have been in excellent condition. I walk in not knowing what I’m looking for, and have twice walked out with my arms full of gently used books.nnPlus, it feels good supporting a small, local shop.

Non-local review:nFirst experience was calling from a Metrolink train after I devastatedly learned I left my book at my sisters house. Total strike-out, lovely owner said he no longer had a copy. I got to go to Mystic Galaxy books, 10/10.nnFast forward three vacation days, I finished my book this morning, I call again and same owner says he doesn’t think he’s got it but looks—this time he has book two! He sets it aside for me until close, I run in and trade in my book at 11, l get my new paperback for $4.50 plus my $19 three-day-old trade-in.nnIdk if it’s a thing but my paperback was taped to reinforce the edges, which is nice for traveling. This is a stellar used book store and I hope San Diego continues to take good care of it.

Great bookstore with exceptional options. Well organized and easy to navigate. Pretty tough to beat the prices as well. Make sure to visit if you’re in Pacific Beach.

Fantastic shop with a great selection of books from all genres. The books are pre-loved and in great condition. Perfect for me, who is traveling and wants a few chill reads.

Went here to find a book by Piers Anthony and they had it! It was the 3rd used book store we tried and I was thrilled to find it here. Will definitely be going back in the future as they have plenty of options in older books.
