Really nice used bookstore with a diverse, well organized, and abundant selection. It has about 5 floors all covered in books; you can really get lost in it.nnMy only complaint is the pricing of some of the used books. One book I bought by a Jamaican author was priced $14.95 for the original price, but they sold it for $18. I don’t know how in the world a used book could be priced higher than the original purchase price, although this was not the case for all the books. When I had asked at the checkout why it was priced higher than the original, the only response was “that is our price” without any explanation. The book is really good, but I was surprised that it was more than if I were to just buy it new elsewhere. While I would go back for the aesthetic and diverse selection of the store, I will likely not recommend it to others due to this pricing issue.
Quality pre-owned books. Dangerous place because you could spend days browsing the stock. Every corner had new treasures to discover. I scored a celebrity cookbook signed by Sinatra. Even has some interesting recepies. Definitely a place you should stop in and browse. Unfortunately this is an old building and does not meet any ADA standards. This is not through neglect but the building cannot be altered to standard. My husband managed to negotiate the stairs with a cane. Patrons with mobility issues may have challenges. #Ada #access ##holmansellhomes #books #antique #historic #service #recycle #classic
Baldwin’s Book Barn is a local treasure! I love this place and have been visiting and buying books there for ~20 years. My biggest challenge is not buying too many! Though I no longer live in the area, I regular come back to town and try to stop by each time. My recent visit in January 2026 was the same wonderful experience as always. Go there and let your imagination run free and wild.
If you're a book lover, Baldwin's is a national treasure, pure and simple. Occupying a 223 year-old stone barn, Baldwin has 5 floors of space for its inventory of over 300,000 books. There are nooks and crannies to get lost in, and passageways worthy of Hobbits. The barn is about 10 minutes from the heart of West Chester, a vibrant university town and 20 minutes from the heart of the Brandywine Valley and it's bucolic attractions. Following the passing of Tom Baldwin, long time owner and son of the original founders, the Book Barn is now ably run by Carol, one of Tom's associates. Again, if you're a book lover or just love historic places and Americana, Baldwin's Book Barn is not to be missed.
One my of favorite places in the area.It is truly stunning and each time I go I spend hours here. There is so much to look at and it’s so fun. Took my mom here today for the first time and she loved it. For the reviews that say that they can’t find anything they want to read I personally have found multiple books each time. I have gone three times and I have bought: From Blood and Ash, Circe, Angels & Demons, Fairy Tale (by Stephen King), Eat Pray Love, and a beautiful poetry book.
