Official synopsis Publisher
If ever a man lived his life on the left it was George Lansbury. He was by turns a Radical Liberal, a Social Democrat and a member of the ILP; he devoted himself to the causes of socialism, feminism and pacifism, among others. The men who influenced him most were Karl Marx, William Morris, Henry Hyndman and Vladimir Lenin. This book does not trace chronologically the process by which this young Radical grew old. It is not a complete biography and is not concerned with Lansbury’s life. However it does consider his opposition to World War I and fascism and examines his struggle to avert the near destruction of the Parliamentary Labour Party in 1931 and the declaration of the World War II.
